Security company owner and manager pick up second conviction for not paying Social Security for employees

By Breaking Belize News Staff: This week, the owner and manager of Security Oriented Services (SOS) both picked up their second conviction for failing to pay Social Security contributions for their employees.

Owner, 59-year-old Paul Garcia, and manager, 37-year-old Crispin Spain, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with a single count of failure to pay Social Security contribution payments no later than 14 days after each calendar month, for August and September 2022.

Both men wasted no time in pleading guilty to the charge, and in mitigation told the court that the company lacks the finance to pay those contributions.

They were both fined $650 which they must pay by January 30, 2023, or they will spend three months in jail for defaulting.

Back in June, Garcia and Spain had been charged and pleaded guilty to the same offense, for the period November 2021 to January 2022.
