By Breaking Belize News Staff: Former Treasury Department Clerk David Enriquez pleaded guilty to three counts of false accounting this week, in relation to almost $500,000 embezzled from the department.
Enriquez appeared in court on Thursday, and on the advice of his attorney changed his initial not guilty plea to guilty. He was fined $12,000.
The three offences span between March 14, 2014, and January 15, 2015. Count one alleges that on March 14, 2014, he produced a document for accounting purposes namely, a Smart Stream Electronic payment upload, in the amount of $225,296.97; count 2 was in the amount of $225,296.97 dated January 12, 2015; and count three was in the sum of $47,638.71 dated January 15, 2015, for a total of$498,232.65.
