By Aaron Humes: This week’s announcement from the U.S. State Department on the designation of former Government Minister John Saldivar for alleged “significant corruption” has exposed, at least publicly, further divides within the United Democratic Party (UDP).
Former leader Patrick Faber, effectively exiled from internal party circles after multiple instances of alleged personal domestic issues and party insubordination, stirred the pot with a Facebook post openly asking how Saldivar got the money he admits taking from Lev Dermen, convicted fraudster, for campaign finance contributions, into Belize.
A back-and-forth ensued between Faber, former Minister Edmond Castro, and Senator Tony Herrera among others, resulting in another public black eye for the UDP.
Party Leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow has said the party expects due process on the matter while Saldivar vehemently denies the charges and says he will fight them as best he can.
