Verdes qualify to Premier League of Belize Finals after beating San Pedro Pirates 3-2

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes celebrated wildly as they booked the second ticket to the Premier League of Belize Finals after dropping the San Pedro Pirates 3-2 at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio on Sunday. The Green Machine reached the Finals on a 5-4 aggregate score having drawn 2-2 in San Pedro two Saturdays ago.

Darrel Myvett put the Green Machine up 1-0 in the 14^th minute with a header extending a shot by Mexican Christian Ramirez. Then, in the 27^th minute, Verdes’ hottest striker in the last few games, Desmond Wade, headed in a ball set by Colombian Camilo Márquez Fajardo.

Horace Avila powered a header in the 42^nd minute to put the Pirates within reach at 2-1.

Trimayne ‘Pepa’ Harris then slammed the ball on the crossbar for Verdes just before the half. That may not have gone in, but he made good in the 58^th minute from within the box when he received a serve from Wade.

Pirates forward Mexican Erick Izquierdo Roman converted from a header in the 66^th to put the ball game at 3-2.

San Pedro pushed for the equalizer knowing that a 3-3 would give them the ticket to the Finals by virtue of away goals, but Verdes were able to ward them off securing the 5-4 aggregate win.

They’ll now face Altitude in the Finals. The Southern club qualified on Saturday after edging Progresso 1-0 and winning 3-1 on aggregate. The first match will be played on Sunday, November 27 in Cayo and the definitive Final in Independence on Saturday, December 3.
