International News: Earthquake in Indonesia kills 56 and injuries hundreds

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia today killing 56 people and leaving hundreds more injured, BBC reports.

Data from the U.S. Geological Survey noted that the 5.6 magnitude quake struck Cianjur town in West Java, at a shallow depth of 10km (six miles).

Many people were rushed to the hospitals for medical treatment and rescuers are still working trying to rescue those trapped under collapsed buildings.

Local officials said that the number of fatalities and injuries could increase because many people were still trapped.
