International News: Taiwan’s reading festival to feature books from allies including Belize

Posted: Monday, November 21, 2022. 9:00 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: In December, the National Central Library (NCL) in Taiwan will host a 2-day carnival as part of the Taiwan reading festival, FocusTaiwan reports.

The Taiwan reading festival will feature books from Taiwan’s diplomatic allies including Belize.

On December 3, 2022, day 1 of the carnival at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Park will feature music performances, arts and crafts, storytelling, and English books presented by the embassies of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), Saint Christopher (Saint Kitts) and Nevis, and Belize.

Belize Ambassador to Taiwan Candice Pitts said that those visiting the Belize booth will be taken on a journey to Belize through books.

The books “introduce them to our national symbols, our national trees, our national birds, our national animals, our national anthem and our national flag,” Pitts said.

“They have a way of comparing and juxtaposing those national items to those of Taiwan, so it’s a very interesting learning experience for them,” Pitts added.

On December 4, 2022, the festival continues with talks by iconic actors and authors.

The Taiwan reading festival could see up to 100,000 visitors.
