Police recover unlicensed weapon after chase aboard bus

By Aaron Humes: Police have arrested and charged a Lord’s Bank, Belize District man following a showdown aboard a bus this morning.

Joel Benito Choco, 26, a construction worker of Lord’s Bank Village, Belize District, is accused of keeping a firearm without a Gun License and keeping ammunition without a Gun License.

At about 9:45 a.m. today, Police say they intercepted a bus at Lord’s Bank junction where a man was seen running towards the back door of the bus. Police officers quickly went after him.

The wanted man pulled out and pointed a firearm in the direction of one of the officers, and that officer fired a warning shot at the individual and thereafter detained him.

Police recovered a 9-millimeter pistol along with a magazine containing seven live rounds of 9-millimeter ammunition. Choco was subsequently arrested and charged.
