By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Mexico and Poland played to a 0-0 draw, the second on Tuesday and of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, in front of 39,369 fans at the 974 Stadium in Doha in Group C.
The hero of the match was Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo ‘Memo’ Ochoa for stopping a penalty kick and the villain was Poland’s star player Robert Lewandowski for missing it.
Héctor Moreno fouled Robert Lewandowski in the 55th minute, but a Video Assisted Referee (VAR) check wasn’t made until the running play ended in the Polish defensive area. Poland was awarded a penalty kick but Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo ‘Memo’ Ochoa made a sensational save in the 58th minute guessing right and spectacularly stopping Lewandowski’s penalty kick.
Mexico took 14 shots to Poland’s 9 with four on target for Mexico and two for Poland.
Both countries picked up a point trailing Saudi Arabia and ahead of Argentina who fell earlier today to Saudi Arabia in the first upset of the 2022 World Cup. The draw isn’t good for either Mexico or Poland but it is good for Argentina who’s chances are now better with their two next opponents not being able to gain ore than one point.
On Saturday, Poland face Saudi Arabia at 7:00 am while Argentina battle Mexico at 1:00 pm.
