Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Manchester United ‘by mutual agreement, with immediate effect’

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Following a much-publicized interview in which Cristiano Ronaldo criticized Manchester United, the British club and Cristiano announced on Tuesday that the player was leaving the club with immediate effect and of mutual accord.

And while you may think that Cristiano is sad and is getting his just deserves, the Portuguese star announced that he has now topped the 500,000 followers mark on social media. In fact, many say that Cristiano hitting at the club saying that many things hadn’t changed since his first stint there and criticizing managers Ralf Rangnick and Erik Ten Hag, was a planned stunt to get the club to let him go. If that is so, you can say that Cristiano has had his way.

Cristiano said Manchester United “betrayed” him and that he had “no respect” for Ten Hag.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect,” Manchester United said.

“The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.

“Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch,” United said.

The club would have fired Cristiano for his statements, but Cristiano reportedly agreed for the contract to be terminated.

“Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early,” said Cristiano on Twitter.

“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge.

“I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”

Cristiano said earlier that when he left Juventus he would have gone to Manchester City, Man U’s rivals, but Sir Alex Ferguson, who was the manager during his first stint at the club, told him he couldn’t go there, and he obliged.

Ronaldo’s contract would have expired at the end of the present season, but now Cristiano is free to go where he may.
