By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Sandhill man charged with drug trafficking this week was fined instead of being given prison time.
Thirty-three-year-old Leevaughan Gillett appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court charged with a single count of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply to another with respect to 114 grams of marijuana found in his possession.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $800 plus $5 cost of court which he must pay by January 31, 2023, or he will spend 8 months in prison.
Police say that on November 18, an officer following Gillett saw him put a plastic bag into a cement block. The officers in Gillett’s presence checked the bag to find marijuana inside.
