Friendship between neighbours ends in aggravated assault charge

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two neighbours who were once friends are now at odds and one of them has been charged with aggravated assault over their dispute.

Forty-five-year-old Darwin Hamilton appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, after being charged for pulling a pint bottle at his female neighbour during an altercation.

Hamilton pleaded not guilty to the charge and explained that he and the neighbour were once good friends but the neighbour’s boyfriend told a lie about him, which prompted the altercation.

There was no objection to bail and it was granted to Hamilton in the sum of $600 plus one surety of the same, which he was able to meet.

As part of the conditions of his bail, Hamilton is barred from having any contact whether in person, digitally, or via a third party, with the complainant.
