International News: Police in Italy arrest woman mafia boss, 48 others in raid

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Tuesday, authorities in Italy arrested 49 suspected mobsters in a raid, including 5 women, 1 of whom is believed to be the boss of the ‘Ndrangheta mafia, Reuters report.

We have seen women cartel and mafia leaders in movies but reports suggest that it is rare for women to have leadership roles in the male-dominated world of the mafia.

According to reports, the woman was “even more ruthless than men”.

The detainees face accusations of extortion, drug trafficking, violence and arson.

The ‘Ndrangheta is considered Italy’s most powerful mafia organization.
