Oscar Perez appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he was read a single count of possession of a knife with a blade measuring over 3 inches.
Perez immediately pleaded guilty to the offense, explaining that he borrowed the knife from a relative and had the knife mounted on his bicycle. He stressed that he had not intended to use it as a weapon.
The Magistrate explained to him that unless you are on a work site during working hours, it is an offense to be in possession of a knife measuring more than 3 inches. For his guilty plea Perez was fined $250 plus $5 cost of court which he must pay by January 31, 2023 or face 2 months in jail.
Police found him with the knife on his bicycle on November 11.
