National Community Police Unit holds meet and greet with Sandhill villagers after shocking triple murder

By Benjamin Flowers: The Community Policing Unit of the Belize Police Department held a meet and greet in Sandhill Village this week to address concerns following the shocking triple murder in the village last week.

Commander of the National Community Policing Unit, Assistant Commissioner of Police Howell Gillett, said that the community has been in a state of fear since the three victims were found shot dead in a house last Thursday and that it was important for police to show their presence.

“Our main purpose is to try to allay the fears caused by this heinous crime. When there’s a murder, more so, three persons were murdered, the fear amongst the community elevates tremendously,” Gillett said. “We want the public, especially residents of that area to understand that the police are part and parcel of the community and we want to do our very best to solve this murder.”

Gillett went on to say that he could not go into any details regarding the ongoing investigation but gave his assurance that police are sparing no effort in tracking down those responsible.
