By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Richarlison scored a brace, including the most beautiful goal of the 2022 World Cup, in Brazil’s 90-minute display of offensive football that beat Serbia 2-0.
Brazil tried from all angles in the first half with Neymar, Vinicius, Richarlison, and Raphinha shooting right, left, and center but just couldn’t get the ball in the net as Serbia defended themselves whenever they could.
Finally, in the 62nd minute, Richarlison nailed a loose ball that made the Brazil fans erupt in celebration. Neymar started the play working the ball up on the left side. As he pushed the ball forward and sought to remain on his feet, Vinicius hammered the overextended ball which was punched out by goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić only to have Richarlison slam it into the net for the 1-0 Brazil lead.
The world went delirious when Richarlison scored the most beautiful goal of the tournament in the 73rd minute. Vinicius Jr on the left made a superb pass to Richarlison within the box. The Brazilian forward popped the ball in the air over his head, turned around on his left foot hitting the ball with his right as he swung, straight at goal.
Manager Tite then gave his entire forward line a rest. Vinicius and Richarlison were substituted right after the goal. Neymar, who fell injured, was also replaced. And a little later, Raphinha was rested as well.
Brazil had done their job. Three points in the bag, they now look forward to Switzerland who they meet on Monday, November 28, at 10:00 am.
Serbia will meet Cameroon at 4:00 am that same day.
