By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Uruguay and South Korea went all out in the final stretch of their opening match in the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Thursday but despite their efforts they couldn’t break the 0-0 stalemate. The high intensity Group H match was played in front of 41,663 fans at the Education City Stadium in Doha.

Uruguay crashed the ball on the left post at the end of each half. First, captain Diego Godin slammed the ball at the bottom of the post off a header from a set piece in the 43rd minute. Then, as the long whistle got nearer, Fedérico Valverde powered a shot to the upper part of the post in the 89th minute.

South Korea captain Son Heung-min also missed a great opportunity in the 90th minute but his shot went wide.

Godin said they now have to focus on the next game. There is no time to worry about today’s outcome in a short tournament where you simply have to look forward to what comes ahead.

Sharing a point each, both countries now look forward to their next match. Korea will play Ghana on Monday, November 28, at 7:00 am, while Uruguay will face Portugal at 1:00 pm.

Today, coming up at 10:00 am, Cristiano Ronaldo takes the field with Portugal against Ghana led by captain Andrew Dede Ayew at the Stadium 974 in Doha.

And in the last game of the day at 1:00 pm, Brazil, led by Neymar and Vinicius, take on Aleksandar Mitrović’s Serbia at the Lusail Stadium in Al Daayen.
