By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Belizean Abraham Alvarez, 22, is the first Belizean to be awarded the Motorola Solutions Foundation scholarship for children of fallen police officers.
Alvarez is the son of the late Supt. of Police Alton Alvarez, who passed away on 24th May 2014.
In October, Alvarez applied for the scholarship along with many others from the Caribbean.
His personal experiences and challenges written in his essay captured the opportunity to become the first Belizean to be awarded the Motorola Solutions Foundation/ACCP Scholarship Programme for Children of Fallen Officers.
The Motorola Solutions Foundation/ACCP Scholarship Programme for Children of Fallen Officers will assist Abraham with $5,000.00 BZ towards his tuition fees.
“Children of these fallen officers who are experiencing financial hardship due to the inability of remaining parent/guardian to provide the necessary funding for their academic pursuits, (or other hardship) will be able to use this money to continue their education in the areas of Engineering, Communications, Marketing, Finance, Industrial Engineering, Human Resource Management, Criminology, Medical Sciences, Law, Forensic Science and other disciplines which are beneficial to the development of communities in the Caribbean,” the Motorola Solutions Foundation noted on their website.
Alvarez is currently pursuing an Associate Degree in Natural Resource Management at Sacred Heart Junior College in Cayo.
Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, and the Belize Police Department joined in congratulating Alvarez.
