Several times National Cycling Champion Alicia Thompson to challenge Tariq Cano for Cycling Federation of Belize presidency on Saturday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Several times National Cycling Champion Alicia Thompson is postulating herself for the presidency of the Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) in elections to be held on Saturday, November 26.

Thompson will be running against Tariq Cano who presented his slate some time ago.

Thompson’s candidature was announced this week by the CFB. Her slate consists of G-Flow’s manager Glen Flowers for Vice President, Warren Coye for Treasurer, Allan Auil for General Secretary, and Justin Williams, Ronald Sutherland, and Douglas Lamb for Committee Members.

Cano’s slate comprises Giovanni Lovell for Vice President, Karen Vernon for Secretary General, Troy Gabb Jr for Treasurer, and Kaya Cattouse, Zahir Figueroa, and Yadira Argueta for Committee Members.

The elections will be held at the CFB’s annual general meeting at the University of the West Indies (UWI) at the Princess Margaret Drive and West Landivar Junction at 10:00 am.

The CFB current president Orson Butler said that he and members of the National Team were extending an open invitation to the cycling community to do a 3 to 3.5 hour-ride after the Election starting at 1:30 pm.

“A brotherhood ride of unity after the election [to] set the motion that we are one body,” said Butler who asked the members to take their bikes with them to the election if they are interested in joining the unity ride.
