Germany managed a comeback after falling behind and drew 1-1 with Spain in Group E at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor in front of 68,895.
Antonio Rüdiger scored in 39th but VAR ruled it offside.
Álvaro Morata chipped in a pass from Jordi Alba in the 62nd minute to give Spain the 1-0 lead.
In desperation, Germany pressed forward and managed to draw even in the 83rd when Niclas Füllkrug slammed the ball past Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simón.
The 1-1 draw keeps Germany alive in the fight to qualify to the next round, though at present they trail Spain, who have 4 points, and Japan and Costa Rica, who have three each.
Earlier, Costa Rica regained their confidence beating Japan 1-0.
In Group F, Morocco blanked Belgium 2-0 while Croatia eliminated Canada 4-1.
