By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Brazil’s patient resolve resulted in a 1-0 win over Switzerland which punched their ticket to the second round of the FIFA World Cup.

Playing in front of 43,649 fans at Stadium 974 in Doha, Brazil converted their winning goal in the 83rd minute on a magnificent turn-around shot by Casemiro from the edge of the penalty area to the far right post past goalkeeper Yann Sommers outstretched hands.

Switzerland put up a good fight and could have gone down 1-0 in the 64th when Vinicius Jr nailed Sommer off a pass by Casemiro, but a Richarlison offside nullified the goal after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) check.

Brazil were without their talisman Neymar who sprained his right ankle in the first match against Serbia.

Brazil now total six points topping Group G ahead Switzerland (3 points) and Serbia and Cameroon, who on Monday morning collected their first point in a 3-3 draw.

Still coming up today in Group H, Portugal meet Uruguay at 1:00 pm at the Lusail Stadium in Al Daayen. Earlier, Ghana beat South Korea 3-2 in that group.
