Tracy Taegar Panton endorsed for UDP Albert Division Standard Bearer

By Benjamin Flowers: The United Democratic Party (UDP) continues to finetune its political machinery with the endorsement of standard bearers, the latest of which is returning Albert Division Standard Bearer, Tracy Taegar Panton.

The UDP endorsed Panton on Sunday, November 27, at a convention held at the party’s headquarters on Youth for the Future Drive. Her endorsement will solidify her third bid for the Albert Division, having won the first two.

Panton came into electoral politics as a newcomer in the 2015 General Elections when she faced off at the polls against the People’s United Party’s (PUP’s) Paul Thompson and won the seat by 342 votes. In the 2020 General Elections while the majority of the UDP candidates were suffering massive losses at the polls, Panton would again face off against Thompson and best him again; but this time by only 41 votes.

During her time in Government, the then Prime Minister tapped into Panton’s expertise in tourism and economic development, making her a minister of state.

Her endorsement comes at a time when the UDP is trying to rebuild itself amidst very public fallouts between ranking members of the party and its leadership.
