By Benjamin Flowers: Today the Belize Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (BelAIFA) held a health fair in Belize City as part of the activities for the annual celebration of Insurance Awareness Week.
The health fair was held at the Belize City Lions Club parking lot, adjacent to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, and was done in collaboration with the Kidney Association of Belize.
The health fair featured booths where attendees could get blood sugar checks, blood pressure checks, kidney function tests, and learn their HIV status.
Carol Panton Rose, President of BelAIFa told Breaking Belize News that the purpose of the health fair was to emphasize to attendees the importance of self care, particularly if they have families depending on them. She also said that insurance officers were present to help give attendees a better understanding of the way insurance works and clear up any misconceptions they may have about it.
“Once you have children to support, once you have people that are dependent on you, once you have assets that you’ve worked hard for and things to protect, insurance is definitely something that you want to look into,” Rose said.
She added that BelAIFA has been observing insurance awareness week for over 10 years, with the next activity, a food drive planned for Friday December 2 and Saturday December 3.
The food drive will see BelAIFA soliciting food items from sponsors Publics and Brodies, for the children at Liberty Children’s Home.
BelAIFa, which is a collaboration between Sagicor Life Inc. RF and G Life Insurance Company, Diversified Life Solutions and Atlantic Insurance, was formed in 1994.
