Happening now: Government of Japan, Belize City Council sign garbage trucks grant contract

Posted: Wednesday, November 30, 2022. 11:41 am CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Today the Embassy of Japan and the Belize City Council are signing a grant contract that will assist the council with the procurement of garbage trucks.

The ceremony is being held at City Hall with Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner and Ambassador of Japan to Belize H.E. Iryu Kazuhiro doing the signing.

The grant is valued at just over $500,000.

During his address, Mayor Wagner noted that the grant is timely, given the debris being left behind by Hurricane Lisa. Wagner also noted that the grant will allow for the purchase of two garbage trucks, moving up the city’s fleet from two to five.
