By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Women and girls in Mexico have taken to the streets to express their outrage over the rise in violent crimes against women in Mexico, Reuters report.
Protesters walked chanting ‘justice for Ari’.
The body of 27-year-old Ariadna Lopez was found beside a highway in Morelos last month.
Local authorities noted that Lopez had choked while drunk.
However, a second post-mortem done in Mexico City revealed that she had died of multiple force trauma.
Mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Pardo said that the Morelos attorney-general’s office “wanted to hide the femicide, presumably because of links with the presumed killer”.
Lopez’s cousin, Michelle Andrade said that the authorities are incompetent.
“The authorities are incompetent, fraudulent, and insufficient, not only in Ari’s case but in the case of all those who are not here. The way things were done and the fact of hiding information, manipulating the facts, and re-victimizing her was not satisfactory for the family,” Andrade stated.
Lopez’s case fits a pattern of faulty investigations in the murders of women in Mexico.
Data from the Government indicate that in 2022, over 5,600 women were murdered in Mexico.
