By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Twelve people have been murdered and several homes have been set on fire in a community near Port-au-Prince as gangs continue to control more territory, the Associated Press reports.
At around midnight on Tuesday, residents were awakened by homes set on fire.
Mayor Joseph Jeanson Guillaume says that the community tried to serve as guards but were overpowered by gangs with machine guns.
Seventeen homes were destroyed by the fire.
The murders are the latest blamed on gangs who have grown more powerful since last year’s assassination of President Jovenel Moïse.
