2022 FIFA World Cup: Switzerland slip past Serbia 3-2, to accompany Brazil to Round of 16

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Switzerland defeated Serbia 3-2 in a high intensity game that saw the lead change three times and qualified them behind Brazil for the Round of 16.

In front of 41,378 fans at the Stadium 974 in Doha, Switzerland took the lead in the 20^th minute on a goal by Xherdan Shaqiri in the 20^th minute. Shaqiri has now scored in three consecutive editions of the World Cup.

Serbia tied it in the 35^th on a strike by Aleksandr Mitovic and went ahead on a goal by Dusan Vlahovic in the 35^th minute.

Breel Embolo drew even for Switzerland in the 44^th. After the half, Remo Freuler scored the winner for Switzerland in the 48^th minute.

With the win, Switzerland totalled six points. They qualified in second place behind Brazil who totalled six as well and edged them on goal difference.

Cameroon with four and Serbia with one were eliminated.

Brazil will play South Korea on Monday, December 5 at 1:00 pm at Stadium 974 in Doha, while Switzerland will match up against Portugal on Tuesday, December 6 at 1:00 pm at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Al Daayen.
