International News: U.S. whistleblower Edward Snowden gets Russian passport

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Friday, former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden swore an oath of allegiance to Russia and received a Russian passport, Reuters report.

In 2013, Snowden exposed and leaked highly classified information from the National Security Agency (NSA) and then fled the U.S.

In September of this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin granted Snowden with Russian citizenship.

He is still wanted in Washington on espionage charges.

Snowden considers himself a whistleblower and received permanent residency in Russia in 2020.
