2022 FIFA World Cup: Lionel Messi leads Argentina against Australia in Day 1 of Round of 16 on Saturday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Lionel Messi will be leading Argentina against Australia on Saturday afternoon (1:00 pm) as the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup knockout stage kicks off.

The first game will be played on Saturday morning (9:00 am) between the United States, the only Concacaf survivor, and the Netherlands.

In this round, all games must produce a winner. So, if the matches are tied after 90 minutes, they go into a 30-minute (15-15) extra time. If they are still tied, the teams go to 5 penalty kicks each to decide the winners. If still tied, they then go into sudden-death penalty kicks until one team misses.

Sunday will feature the World Champions France against Poland at 9:00 am and England against Senegal at 1:00 pm.

Japan go up against World Subchampions Croatia on Monday, December 5 at 9:00 am while Brazil play South Korea at 1:00 pm.

The final day for the Round of 16 will be Tuesday, December 6. On that day, Morocco will measure up against Spain at 9:00 am and at 1:00 pm Portugal will close against the Group G
