Ladyville man charged with burglarizing school cafetería and classroom; His mother told police he had stolen items

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Ladyville man was remanded to the Belize Central Prison in connection with a burglary at Ladyville Seventh Day Adventist Primary School last week.

Twenty-year-old James Bainton appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s court on Monday charged with a single count of burglary.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge but was denied bail in the first instance and remanded to prison until January 5, 2023.

Allegations against him are that he broke into the school between December 1-2 and stole almost $700 worth of items including a microwave, a fan and a bicycle belonging to the school’s cook.

The cook later recovered her bicycle from the home of Bainton’s mother. When police went to the residence, the mother told officers that Bainton was in possession of the missing items and that she had no connection to them.

At the time of his arrest, Bainton was out on bail in connection with the stabbing of a Jamaican national earlier this year. The revocation of his previous bail for violating its terms was not discussed at his arraignment.
