By Aaron Humes: Over the weekend the 56th annual general meeting of the National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) was held in Punta Gorda Town.
Luis “Luke” Martinez was elected to continue as president of the NTUCB executive, along with second vice president Miguel Aguilar; Assistant General Secretary Marvin Mora; Assistant Treasurer Jose Escalera; Trustee Jacqueline Medrano Cruz; Director of Education Trisha Perez and Director of Gender Affairs Ella Waight.
These new executive members join incumbents Clifford Martinez (first vice-president); Philip Tate (general secretary); Jorge Mejia (treasurer); Jose Trejo (auditor); Andrew Baird (councillor); and Ramiro Gongora (trustee).
The Congress’ chosen theme was “NTUCB: Unions in transition, revitalized and inclusive of all Workers, the NTUCB of today!”
The Congress was first federated in 1966 and contains 14 member unions.
