By Breaking Belize News Staff: In February 2020, 43-year-old Shane Budram was fatally shot; this week his own nephew and another man were sentenced to life in prison for his murder.
Nineteen-year-old Raheem Budram and 21-year-old Kareem Eghan Jr. appeared in the Supreme Court on Monday before Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft for their sentencing hearing. Both men received life in prison without the possibility of parole until they have served 40 years. Justice Sandcroft also deducted time served on remand, leaving them with a total of 37 years, six months, and five days before parole eligibility.
The prosecution’s main witness in the trial testified that on February 21, 2020, after having an argument with his uncle Raheem Budram called out to “Remo” and then Eghan appeared with a gun and opened fire. Shane Budram was shot 10 times to the body and died on the spot.
Both men had relied on alibi defenses, Budram saying that he was in Western Paradise Village at the time of the murder and Eghan testifying that he was at his home when the murder was committed.
