Belize City resident robs man who refused to buy a bicycle from him

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City resident has been charged this week after robbing a man who refused to buy a bicycle he was offering for sale.

Thirty-year-old Eric Tillett appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, answering to a single count of robbery.

Allegations are that on Monday, December 5, he offered to sell a bicycle to Thomas Pop for $80, but Pop refused.

At Pop’s refusal, Tillett allegedly hit him over the head with a pint bottle and robbed him of $40, in two twenty-dollar notes.

In court, Tillett initially pleaded guilty but after the Magistrate explained to him the penalties associated with the charge, Tillett changed his plea to not guilty.

The prosecution objected to bail given the severity of the crime, and Tillett was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until January 6, 2023.
