By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man was convicted of wounding this week after a violent misunderstanding on a passenger bus over a bag.

Thirty-eight-year-old Ivan Torres appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with a single count of wounding upon Nestor Chan.

Torres immediately pleaded guilty to the offense and was fined $400 plus $5 cost of court which he must pay by January 31, 2023, or he will face 4 months in prison.

Reports are that On Monday, December 5, Torres was on a Sarteneja bus, heading into Belize when the bus made a stop and he exited, leaving his bag behind to mark his seat. When he returned to the bus, he found that Chan had moved his bag causing the argument that ultimately led to him punching Chan in the face, causing it to bleed. Chan then called the police to report the incident.
