By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology and Ministers, Francis Fonseca and Dr. Louis Zabaneh have extended condolences to the family and friends of former Government Minister and trailblazer, Sylvia Flores.
“Hon. Sylvia Flores was a fervent advocate for education development and preserving and promoting culture in Belize. Her devotion to our nation is reflected in her many years of service as a distinguished educator and politician,” the Ministry noted.
Flores served as the first woman Speaker of the House of Representatives from September 12, 1998 – July 1, 2001.
She also served as President of the Senate from August 14, 2001 – February 4, 2003.
She was named a Minister in the Cabinet of Former Prime Minister Said Musa and held the portfolios of Human Development, Defence, and National Emergency Management.
The establishment of Delille Academy and the Gulisi Primary School in Dangriga was the result of her endeavors in education.
“May her soul rest in peace and perpetual light shine on her,” the Ministry said.
