By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes’ General Manager Lorin Frazer said the Verdes players did follow the match countdown in Independence last Saturday.
Altitude General Manager Jordan Zabaneh said that while the match commissioner and the referee team considered the field at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium was not good enough to play last Saturday, that the Verdes players didn’t have any intention of playing because they never went to their locker room, did not suit up, and didn’t follow the match countdown.
“Would we have made a journey there with no intention to play?” Frazer asked.
Frazer said the match countdown was modified because of the game delay from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm. According to Frazer, the Verdes players initially remained in their travel kits and didn’t go into the locker room because they were advised that the pitch was to be assessed at 7:00 pm and they also knew that the game would not have started at 7:30 pm.
He said that once the match commissioner advised him to have the players go into the locker room and prepare, he instructed them to do so, and the players put on their team playing jerseys ready to warm up whenever the call was made. He said once the decision was made to call off the game, he said he addressed his team in the locker room before leaving.
