By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Argentina took a 2-0 lead over the Netherlands on a penalty kick by Lionel Messi in the 73^rd minute at the Lusail Stadium in Al Daayen.

Lionel Messi converted a penalty kick with left foot going to the right side of the goal defended by goalkeeper Andries Noppert.

The goal is Messi’s 95^th in 170 international games for Argentina, hisn tenth in the World Cup. He now has the same number of goals as Gabriel Batistuta, as all-time goalscorers in the World Cup.

Argentina had taken the lead in the 35^th minute on a goal by Nahuel Molina off an assist by Messi.
