Ministries of Labour, Immigration and IOM host stakeholder consultation

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Thursday, December 8, 2022, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) collaborated with the Ministries of Labour and Immigration to hold a stakeholder consultation for the development of a Seasonal Workers Program for Belize.

The Ministries noted that the consultancy process aims to promote ethical recruitment by reviewing existing policies and procedures for the issuance of Temporary Employment Permits to migrant workers in the agricultural sector.

The Seasonal Workers Programme is intended to be efficient, provide safe recruitment, and deployment.

“This formal process will also benefit from collaboration with our neighbouring countries and foster economic development,” the stakeholders noted.
