World Champions France slip past England 2-1 in the last Quarterfinal at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor to qualify to the Semifinals.

England could have tied the game in the 84^th but Harry Kane blasted the ball over the crossbar from the penalty spot. In the 54^th, Kane had scored from the same spot to level the game at 1-1.

Olivier Giroud hammered the winner with a header into the net past Jordan Pickford in the 78^th minute for France to lead 2-1 over England after the Kane goal.

The opening goal was scored in the 17^th minute, when after a series of passes midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty area beating English goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

The match was rather even but France has a knack for scoring when the other team is playing at their best. They did that twice today to put out the English side. England nullified France’s star player and the tournament’s top scorer Kylian Mbappé, but that allowed France’s other players more freedom.

France will play Morocco, who beat Portugal 1-0, in the Semifinals.
