Couple remanded for possession of firearm and ammunition in vehicle

By Aaron Humes: 25-year-old Randy Chambers of Police Street, Belize City, and 24-year-old Ashley Perez of Punta Gorda Town, Toledo District, were sent on remand to the Central Prison for possession of firearms and ammunition for which they did not have a license.

Police made the bust on Thursday on the Philip Goldson Highway between miles three and four when they intercepted a gold-coloured vehicle near the roundabout at Reimers Feed Mill.

Chambers, who was driving, admitted he did not have a driver’s license. He was additionally charged with this in court and pleaded guilty.

The .38 pistol with six live rounds of ammunition was found in Perez’s purse wrapped inside a jumper suit, but when asked if she had a license for it she claimed not to know anything about it.

The two pleaded not guilty in court, but due to the nature of the offence were ordered remanded without bail until February 6, 2023.
