Special Envoy reflects on International Human Rights Day

Posted: Saturday, December 10, 2022. 10:05 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December.

Today, Special Envoy for the development of families and children, Rossana Briceno reflected on Belize and how we can be respectful and inclusive on International Human Rights day.

“Dignity, freedom and justice for all… respect of rights and freedoms and recognition that rights and freedoms are for all.

This year, we focus on human rights under the theme “Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All”,” Briceño said.

The United Nations note that in the decades since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, human rights have become more recognised and more guaranteed around the world.

It has since served as the foundation for an expanding system of human rights protection that today focuses also on vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples and migrants.

“Let’s consider how Belize and each of us can be respectful and inclusive as we consider rights and freedoms of all,” Briceño added.
