By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center has announced the return of Sylvia the Jaguar to her habitat as efforts to recover from the damages of Hurricane Lisa continue.
The Belize Zoo made the announcement on Sunday, noting that getting Sylvia back in the habitat was a collaborative effort.
“The Belize Zoo thanks all the supporters of the Hearts for Habitat matching fund that ran last month for speeding up this process. Thanks as well to BATSUB for giving her a nice new bridge over her pond, using a fallen ficus tree. It’s great to find a few silver linings as we recover from Hurricane Lisa’s destructive visit to the Zoo,” the Belize zoo said.
The zoo is currently still closed until further notice but assured that updates will be provided on the progress towards reopening. Meanwhile, anyone wishing to support the Zoo’s recovery efforts is urged to contact the zoo at either +501-613-4966, or email [email protected] for more information on how to assist.
