Champions Altitude lead Scotiabank Concacaf League race

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After a very impressive Opening Championship winning the crown over Verdes in a penalty-kick shootout on Sunday, and winning the regular season by five points, Altitude are the frontrunners to qualify for the 2023 Scotiabank CONCACAF League.

Should they win the Closing Championship which kicks off in January, Altitude will represent Belize.

If another team should win the Closing Championship, the cumulative regular season points from the Opening and Closing Championships between the two champions will determine who will represent.

Altitude are better than anyone in both regards. Currently, Altitude, who finished the regular season with 32 points, lead Verdes (27) by five and San Pedro Pirates (23) by seven.

As to the Premier League of Belize Championship, Altitude wrestled it away from Verdes FC in a stellar 26-penalty-kick shootout that concluded 11-10 after two consecutive 1-1 draws plus extra time in the second encounter on Sunday in Belmopan.
