By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Saturday night, Guatemala’s ‘Fuego’ volcano erupted forcing the airport to close, the Voice of America reports.
‘Fuego’ is located about 10 miles from the capital, Antigua.
The volcano erupts every 4 to 5 years and in 2018, it sent rivers of lava pouring down devastating the village of San Miguel Los Lotes, killing 215 people.
Guatemalan authorities are monitoring the eruption but there has not yet been any evacuations.
Families in the area say they are prepared with bags of food, water, flashlights and medicine in case they need to evacuate.
