As the second half starts, Argentina lead Croatia 2-0 on goals by Lionel Messi and Julián Álvarez in the first Semifinal at the Lusail Stadium in Al Daayen.

After 30 minutes of a locked game in which Croatia was very orderly in defence and had only allowed one Argentina shot by Enzo Fernández in the 25^th minute, the game opened up when Messi started controlling the ball and pushing forward.

Goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic had no choice in the 32^nd minute but to foul Álvarez as he cut into the penalty area. The referee Daniele Orsato awarded Argentina a penalty kick and yellow carded both Livakovic and Kovacic.

Messi stepped up in the 34^th minute, blasted a powerful shot past Livakovic. The keeper guessed right but the shot was too strong.

That’s Messi’s 5^th goal in the World Cup.

Then in the 39^th minute, Álvarez worked his way through the defence and hammered the second goal for the 2-0 lead.

Argentina are 45 minutes away from booking a ticket for the Finals against either Morocco or defending champions France who play the second Semifinal on Wednesday.
