By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Argentina lead Croatia 2-0 in the first Semifinal of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on goals by Lionel Messi and Julián Alvarez.

Argentina took the 1-0 lead in the 34^th minute on a powerful penalty kick by Lionel Messi. The penalty kick was a result of a foul on Julián Álvarez in the penalty area by goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic.

The keeper guessed right but the shot was too strong.

That’s Messi’s 5^th goal in the World Cup.

Then in the 39^th minute, Álvarez worked his way through the defence and hammered the second goal for the 2-0 lead.
