By Breaking Belize News Staff: On December 9, Brandon Hughes and Jose Gomez were found guilty of the 2018 murder of 75-year-old businessman Oscar Rosado Sr. Today, Oscar Rosado Jr. gave an emotional impact statement in court, while his father’s killer pleaded for his forgiveness.
Rosado took the stand and told the court that the murder has left him with post-traumatic stress disorder, which has affected every area of his life. Rosado explained that after seeing a half bucket of his father’s blood on the warehouse floor and hearing the gunshots ring out, he cannot sleep without the aid of medication or he will awaken in fright hearing the shots all over again. He added that he no longer goes to family functions because he feels the absence of his father and that the family business keeps one of its doors closed, operating out of a side door following the incident.
Turning to his father’s killers, he said that he would not wish the damage they have caused his family, even upon them.
In mitigation, both men expressed how remorseful they were of the situation and pleaded with the Rosado family to accept their apologies.
Meanwhile, Justice Susan Lamb noted that she will have to delay passing sentences on the men since there are other documents pertinent to the case that she must wait on. As a result, sentencing has tentatively been set for January 12, 2023.
Oscar Rosado Sr. was shot dead at this business on Cemetery Road on April 23, 2018.
