By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes Spanish Head Coach David Pérez Sr. is leaving the Premier League of Belize (PLB) subchampions after a year and a half at the helm. During this time, Pérez led Verdes to two FFB Top League national championships (The Top League was the league the FFB established to fill the gap left by the inactive PLB last season) and one PLB subchampionship.
Verdes is reportedly leaving the Green Machine to take up duties as the permanent Head Coach of the Belize National Teams programme at the Football Federation of Belize, a job he already held on a part-time basis.
“Verdes FC would like to thank our Head Coach, David Perez Sr, for his time and dedication towards the club,” Verdes said in a statement posted on social media.
“He led Verdes FC to become PLB Champions and helped us make history at the CONCACAF Tournament. We appreciate the commitment, support, knowledge, hard work, but most importantly the love given. We will remember your leadership and wish you all the best in your journey.”
For his part, Pérez said he had learnt a lot at Verdes and said part of his heart is now green. He thanked Verdes for the opportunity, the players, the staff, the fans, and the management. He said the fans are the ‘engine of this Green Machine’ and apologized to them for not winning the last tournament.
“I want to thank Verdes FC for the opportunity in this year and a half to be able to enjoy each of the moments lived, both good and bad,” Pérez said.
“Truly each one of you has shown me that WE ARE a true family and that is why I step aside but leaving a color in my heart marked green.”
Pérez alsp thanked the rival clubs saying football is competition and congratulated all of them.
“We must continue to put the name of Belize very high,” he said to them.
“It’s time to step aside and continue working for the growth of football. Thanks Green Machine,” Pérez said in closing.
