By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Nine houses were handed over in the Cayo and Belize Districts under the Modular Houses Pilot Project by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH) on Thursday.
“Our role at MIDH is to help everybody,” said Housing Minister Julius Espat at the handing over ceremony of the starter home for Angela Hemsley in the Belize Rural Central Division. “There’s a lot more to do.”
Minister Espat said the starter homes are made in such a way that the new owners can expand them later as their resources get better.
“This has been the most meaningful gift I have ever received,” said Hemsley who received her starter home on Thursday.
She thanked both Minister Espat and Minister of Human Development, Families, and Indigenous People’s Affairs and Area Representative Dolores Balderamos Garcia.
Along with Hemsley, starter homes were also handed over to Santos Cunil in Benque Viejo del Carmen, Keenan August in Bradley’s Bank, San Ignacio, in Cayo Northeast, Isiah Gillett and Kimberly Mahler in Cotton Tree in Cayo South, and Felipe Guerra in Belmopan. The other four were handed over to Hemsley, Aracely Guzman, Chelsie Jones, and Cleveland Wade in Lord’s Bank and Ladyville in Belize Rural Central. More houses will be handed over in Corozal, Orange Walk, and Belize Districts next week.
