By Benjamin Flowers: Businesses all over Belize are seeing an uptick in activity with the coming Christmas holidays, and the Belize Police Department is continuing its efforts to ensure that these businesses and their patrons remain safe.
On Wednesday, Officer Commanding the Toledo (Police) Formation, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Brent Hamilton, held a meet and greet in the central area of Punta Gorda Town along with his deputy, Inspector Daniel Pascual and staff personnel. The meet and greet is a weekly initiative carried out by ASP Hamilton.
“During the meet-and-greet session, several business establishments were visited, and they were grateful for the presence of the police. Business owners were advised to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the police station. Also, the officers issued them a burglary protection pamphlet,” the Belize Police Department said.
Since the beginning of December, police have been on increased patrols and have been maintaining the department’s annual public education campaign, giving Belizeans advice on how to stay safe while Christmas shopping. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams recently noted that burglaries are on the rise and have become a serious problem that the department is looking at closely.
