International News: Aquarium in Berlin bursts; killing 1,500 fish

Posted: Friday, December 16, 2022. 9:00 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: This morning, a huge aquarium in Berlin, Germany burst, spilling water and debris and over 1000 tropical fish out, the Associated Press reports.

Authorities say the AquaDom which also contains a hotel, cafes and stores were damaged as the 1 million liters (264,000 gallons) of water poured from the aquarium.

The 82 foot tall aquarium was the biggest cylindrical tank in the world and held more than a thousand tropical fish before the incident.

The aquarium housed the blue tang and clownfish, two colorful species known from the popular animated movie “Finding Nemo.”

Officials say that none of the 1,500 fish could be saved.

The aquarium is a major tourist attraction in Berlin.
